Fish Alaska Magazine 2006 Field Favorite

Hope Pharmaceuticals' Scopace was honored as a Field Favorite in Fish Alaska Magazine:

"This innovative motion sickness remedy was put to the test when we tried it during some rough days at sea. The product tester is a renowned seasickness sufferer, and amazingly he had a sickness free day. The pill is the next generation from the scopolamine patch."

-- Marcus Weiner, Publisher, Fish Alaska Magazine

Members of the Coast Guard, as you know, are required to sail aboard a variety of vessels for a large part of their military careers.  The unfortunate few who suffer from intractable motion sickness are consequently discharged from the service as "unsuitable" due to uncontrolled sea sickness.

I'm thrilled to say that your product, Scopace, has saved the careers of at least two very happy sailors.  Prior to Scopace, I tried everything to keep these young men afloat.  They did not want to lose their careers.  Scopace worked for them!  They suffered no ill effects and have gone on to other ships with their prescriptions in hand.

Scopace should appear on the formulary of every sick bay in the Maritime services.

Sincerely,

CDR Barbara Schoen

I have had positive feedback from both patients and family members who have taken Scopace for prevention of motion sickness.  They have reported few side effects and enjoyed the flexibility of not having to have continual dosing if not needed.

It is my pleasure to write you and report my excellent results with your product, Scopace.  I personally have suffered with motion sickness for many years and researched the field when in my training years for my medical specialty of Otolaryngology.  I discovered that scopolamine was by far the best pharmacologic agent that existed for the treatment of motion sickness.  Your preparation is now used by literally tens if not hundreds of my patients and friends who suffer this malady while flying or in the pursuit of the Pacific salmon.  It is an appropriate dose size and easily taken with very high efficacy.  Patients tolerate it very well and once convinced of its effectiveness, then relax and enjoy the trip as they have never been able to do before.  Interestingly, the drug can be given at the initial feeling of nausea and will terminate that feeling and restore the person to vitality.  I use it personally and would have to terminate my ocean fishing trips without it.

Thanks for your help and keep this excellent product available.

As I indicated on the telephone, I have many friends and patients that are active in boating and require the use of a medication for motion sickness.  The quick action of Scopace and the one-day dosage have been well received.  In addition, the topical irritation and itching problems that I have encountered associated with the patch have not been a problem with Scopace.  My patients seem to be very satisfied with your product.

Scopace is the best "motion sickness" medication I have ever used.  We personally use this when scuba diving and it takes away any nausea while diving.  It does not cause drowsiness for me and works quickly.  One time I forgot to use it prior to diving and I had to surface.  Once I took Scopace, I could dive again.

Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Prestera

I have been meaning to respond to this article but kept forgetting until a recent dive trip without my Scopace reminded me how much this drug revolutionized diving for me.

I am a licensed physician, and a certified diver since 1999 with more than 50 dives in my logbook. I was never troubled with motion sickness as a kid, and got through my certification course without any trouble either. However the older I get, the more the motion sickness bothers me, particularly in the open waters of the Atlantic in South Florida. I think it was about 4 years ago, I stumbled upon Scopace tablets, and was able to get some through the manufacturer. At that time, the scopolamine patch was off the market for some reason, and I had been in discussion with our compounding pharmacist about getting scopolamine custom-made for me in a transdermal gel. However, once I tried the Scopace tablets, I have never considered anything else.

For me, there are clear advantages over the patch, some of which you mention in your article. I like the fact that the drug wears off in 6-8 hours. This is the perfect length of time for most half-day boat trips, so you don't have unnecessary drug in your system. You also don't waste this medication as with the patch which, if you take it off, cannot be reused. But I didn't like the idea of wearing a 3 day patch when I only needed the drug for half a day. I also like the dosing flexibility. I usually take 1 tablet (0.4 mg) about 1 hour before the boat is scheduled to leave. If I'm making a second trip in the same day I can repeat the dose later. If I am not going to dive, then I don't take any. And if I know the conditions are predicted to be particularly rough, I take 1 tablet about 1 1/2 hours before and a second about 1/2 hour before departure. I have not had trouble with either drowsiness or blurred vision, and the dry mouth doesn't particularly bother me. I actually like having a little dryer mouth to breathe through the regulator, and if you drink enough fluid on the boat, this low dose is really no that bothersome. I personally have not had any trouble taking it in conjunction with a decongestant such as pseudoephedrine, with I know is another common drug used by recreational divers.

I really won't dive anymore without my Scopace tablets and recommend it to divers I meet as I travel. I have never had motion sickness while taking Scopace, and as I said, my last trip without Scopace ended up in aborted diving because I couldn't get control of my motion sickness.

Two of my patients have had spectacular help with Scopace and all others have been pleased.

A local travel agent who suffers seasickness not helped with the Scopolamine patch was forced to cruise with a local sports team that his agency sponsored. He was delighted to have no symptoms during the cruise using Scopace.

Another patient who has had for years a summer home on Pelee Island in Lake Erie could never make the crossing before trying Scopace.

We all thank you for the product.

Yours truly,
J. Joseph Payton, D.O.

The following brief article for scuba divers was posted online.

Scopolamine - Pill (Scopace) vs Patch (Transderm Scop)

Scopace is faster acting, but does not last anywhere near as long as Transderm Scop (8 hours v 3 days).  But, the pill will not get dislodged or fall off from behind your ear, nor will it get transferred from your fingers to your eyes and cause you to look and act like an owl.

The manufacturer's recommendation for use of Scopace indicates that "the typical dose is 1-2 tablets taken an hour before travel. For prompt absorption and action, the dose should be taken on an empty stomach.  Each dose comforts for up to 8 hours."  However, as with any other prescription medication, it is to be taken as directed by your doctor.

The pill is most economical.  Purchased online, four 1.5 mg scopolamine patches will cost about $30; thirty 0.4 mg tablets of Scopace will cost about $12.

I have been using Scopace in my practice for about 4 years. I first learned about it through an advertisement. I suffer (and I do mean suffer) from severe motion sickness. I tried Scopace one summer for myself after I had received an invitation to go out on the ocean for an evening conference. As luck would have it, the swells were high. Many of the guests got sick. However, for the first time, I wasn't one of them. I have been using it personally since then with fabulous results and it is the first line prescription for my patients.

I just want to let you know how happy I have been to find Scopace as a treatment for motion sickness. I am an avid scuba diver but suffer from terrible seasickness. The first few times I went diving my love of diving was dampened by spending most of my time on the boat getting sick over the side. I tried the transdermal scopolamine patches. They worked but I found the side effects during the 19 hours a day that I wasn't on a boat to be very bothersome: sleepiness, dry mouth and trouble focusing to read. Scopace has been the perfect solution. It works great to prevent seasickness on the boat. My husband (and dive partner) can't believe I am feeling fine even when the swells get pretty big! The rest of the day I feel fine too, with no side effects. I have recommended it to friends and family members. As a physician I have been prescribing it for my patients. I highly recommend it for anyone who has suffered from the horrible feeling of motion sickness. Thanks Scopace!

In January of this year, I talked by phone with you asking about Scopace for my use on our cruise to the Antarctic. I told you I would write to you about that experience. It is difficult, of course, to accurately assess the effectiveness, but my impression was extremely favorable. Crossing the Drake Passage both ways was moderately rough. The captain graded a 4 to 5 with 10 being very severe. We did have 30-feet waves and I heard of many passengers confined to their cabins with seasickness and vomiting. My partner and I had only a couple of hours in total of uneasiness (not even nausea) on the entire cruise. We each took 1.5 tablets of Scopace, 0.6 mg, before crossing the Drake both ways and again 6 to 7 hours later. I handed out a few tablets to friends we met on the cruise and they, 3 in all, were favorably impressed. I will add too that I am a bit prone to seasickness and motion sickness, so needless to say I was very pleased, and as a practicing family physician of 40 years, Scopace will have a real role in my caring for patients exposed to seasickness.

Thank you very much for the experience with Scopace.

Sincerely,

James Monahan, M.D.

The Scopace worked on my seasickness perfectly. Our whale watching trip took place on a very rough day. Several passengers were very ill during the trip, but I was fine with no side effects. I have told at least a dozen people about your product. Thank you for your time and attention in answering my questions regarding motion sickness and Scopace.

Best Regards,
Riina Newton, R.N.

About a year ago I received a 100 tablet bottle of Scopace. I frequently fish 20-40 miles off shore and have always used dramamine. Since receiving Scopace I have been using it and it works great. Only side effect is a dry mouth. Just returned from a 6 day cruise on a 65 foot boat and took Scopace every day.

I would like to give you some information about my recent experience with SCOPACE. I was recently on a ship that was cruising to Antarctica and we had to cross the Drake Passage which is known to have the roughest seas in the world. During the crossing of the Drake Passage, I used SCOPACE exclusively in order to prevent motion sickness which has been a long time significant problem for me at sea. I am pleased to say that I did not have any problems with motion sickness while crossing the Drake Passage while taking SCOPACE at full therapeutic doses. After crossing the passage, the water calmed down and I was able to taper and discontiue the medication and have a great cruise without any motion sickness. I did have a little dry mouth which was an insignificant problem.

I appreciate your speaking with me prior to my cruise and providing the information on SCOPACE. As someone who has been miserably seasick in the past, it's a pleasure to have an effective medication to prevent this problem.

Sincerely,

Edward Littman, MD

The following is an unedited quote from an online article published by Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel Online.

Prescription drugs mean mostly scopolamine, which is available as a patch or in tablet form. The tablet form might be preferable because you can control the intake of drugs to your system. The patch delivers a ontrolled amount, which you cannot raise or lower, over a three-day period. Some years ago, I had a bad reaction to the patch, including intensely dry mouth, headache and blurry vision. The warning label mentions these possible side effects, so I imagine my case was not unique. The tablets are made by Hope Pharmaceuticals.

TRAVELING IN GOOD HEALTH

Motion Sickness

If flying, sailing or driving gives you that old queasy feeling here's what to do:

Consult your doctor about prescription and over-the-counter aids for controlling motion sickness. One of the most effective prescription drugs is scopolamine hydrobromide (SCOPACE). A typical dose is 1-2 tablets taken an hour before travel.

Comments: If you suffer from motion sickness, ask your doctor for the great new prescription drug called Scopace. It lasts for 8 hours and unlike every other drug out there, it doesn't cause drowsiness. Your doctor may not have heard of it, its very new. With all the planes, trains, buses, boats, and winding roads, those little pills were a godsend.

Note: Scopolamine can cause drowsiness. This side-effect is typically dose related. Please review the prescribing information with your doctor before taking this medication.

Put this one down as an unsolicited testimonial from a happy consumer.

I am an enthusiastic scuba diver.  I love the water but, unfortunately, it doesn't always love me.

Last year I scheduled a one-in-a-lifetime trip to spend a week in February on a liveaboard boat, diving the Great Barrier Reef off Australia's northeast coast.  Although I have had some luck controlling sea sickness with over-the-counter means, last January I went for a "warm up dive" in Florida and the rough seas proved to me that the non-prescription remedies may be fine in mild conditions - but not when things get rough.  I realized it was time to get serious about making sure I didn't spend my week on the reef on my back.

I heard about Scopace and called my doctor.  It worked like a charm.  For the first three days of the trip with rather poor conditions and even passing on the edge of Cyclone Nelson (6 to 10 foot seas) my seasickness was kept in check.  As I discussed with my doctor, I was able to increase my dosage during rough condition and back-off when things smoothed out...not possible with a patch  I absolutely could not have survived without my scopace.

So now I can look at my hundreds of underwater photos and have fond memories of a great trip.  And when folks ask how I made it for seven days, ate, drank and had a great time without any worry of getting sick - I recommend your product.

Thanks,

Howard Schrott

I’d like to thank you for your product.  My last fishing trip was my first trip I’ve ever gone out on a boat and not gotten sick.  I’ve tried home remedies, OTC.  I was very apprehensive and anxious before going on that trip, but I was extremely happy at the end of the trip to have not gotten sick.

Jeannette Jenkins

You all know I can get seasick looking at a goldfish bowl, so although I was eagerly anticipating our trip to Antarctica, South Georgia and the Falklands, I was also dreading 17 days at sea in the South Atlantic and Antarctic Oceans, including the Drake Passage, reputed to be the roughest stretch of ocean in the world. I just accepted in advance I’d spend a lot of days in my bunk. Picture instead Veda and me up in the ship’s library playing gin rummy as we crossed that same Drake Passage. Consider that I didn’t miss a meal the whole trip. There’s no doubt in my mind that I owe that all to Scopace. This drug really worked. So I thought I’d pass on that information to all of you, my sometime fellow sufferers.

I have tried just about everything over the years: Dramamine, Bonine (meclizine), Stugeron (not available in the US), wrist bands, ginger, you name it, all with moderate or no success. Most of us re familiar with the Scopolamine patch. Scopace is the same drug, but taken orally. The huge advantage was I could adjust how much to take according to what I felt I needed, something not possible with the patch.

Philip Stine

We spoke in August prior to a month long trip to Alaska which involved large plane, small plane, seaplane, train and small boat travel.  As I get all forms of motion sickness I was concerned with how I would handle the trip.  I am not able to use the patch as I react to the adhesive and you were very helpful in providing information for me, my physician and my pharmacist regarding Scopace. Scopace totally took care of my concerns.  Aside from one seaplane trip where I did not take the medication, I suffered no motion sickness on the trip and the medication did not make me drowsy.  A few times I would start to feel queasy but within a short time of taking a pill I was fine.  In fact, after taking the medication twice a day for the first two days of the boat (120' in length) cruise, I needed a pill only rarely during the rest of the cruise.  The only negative I experienced was dry "cotton" mouth the first few times I used the Scopace.

I will use Scopace for all future travel and have mentioned to my physician that she may wish to prescribe it for any patients needing help with motion sickness.

I just returned from a three-week trip to Europe, having been on planes, trains, buses, small boats, and a ship.  I used Scopace tablets for prevention of motion sickness, and there was not a single time that I felt any ill effects of motion.  I have suffered from motion sickness since I was a baby.  When I was nine months old, my family went on a car trip, and,
according to my mother, I was sick the entire time I was in the car, but o.k. when not in the car.  As an adult, I underwent several tests and was told by an ENT doctor that my motion sickness is in the worst 1%.

Over the years, I have tried numerous tablets and so-called remedies, but nothing has worked nearly as well as the Scopace tablets.  The only side effect I experienced was a very dry mouth, so I just drank extra water.

My husband was also thrilled with the success I had with Scopace because we were not limited in any way regarding activities while on the trip.

Pam Wakefield

A friend of mine who had never been sick ever, was about to lose his breakfast so I gave him a pill [Scopace].  He lied down, and 30 minutes later got out of bed and was 100% fine and could not believe how quickly Scopace took effect.

Ernie Montano

Thank you!  Scopace has changed my life.  I can fly or float without the fear of becoming sick.  My motion sickness was debilitating until I found this great remedy.  I tell everyone I know about the wonders of Scopace.

Jeff Szymanski

I'm just writing to tell you what a fabulous medication Scopace is.  I fish with my husband every weekend.  Since 1998, I had been using the scopolamine patch and hating the side effects.  But I had no choice.  It was take the patch or be sick.

My husband saw your web site on a card he picked up at West Marine and I looked you up.  I made an appointment with my doctor and he prescribed it.  It has been life changing.  I am free of motion sickness with just one pill and I have virtually no side effects except some dry mouth in the first hour.  For the first time ever, I know what it feels like to feel normal out on the water.  I think Scopace is more effective than the patch.  With the patch, I would have an "adjustment" period out on the water where I'd feel half sick until I got my bearings.  With Scopace, we stop the boat, start fishing and I feel great!

I love Scopace and hope you continue to manufacture it for years to come.  I would be happy to give you a testimonial if you ever wanted one.  You are enabling me to enjoy our favorite leisure time activity with renewed spirit.  It's a wonderful product.  Keep it up!  I'll buy it until I'm too old to fish!

Cheryl Kepner

I've been using the Scopace pill for a couple of years now.  It is the most ESSENTIAL piece of fishing equipment I own.  I will not go on the water without it.

I used to use the patch, but on hot days the patch would fall off when I slept.  Plus most of my trips were 2 days or less.  So it got expensive to use when going out for the day.  I've been using Scopace for over 2 years and never got sick.  I've been on at least 20 trips each year.  In the beginning when I knew it would be real rough, I might take up to 3 pills, but over the years, I'm down to one pill.  It;s been the best seasickness medicine on the market, and I've tried it all.

I just got back from a fishing trip in Cabo and the Scopace tablets saved the trip for me.  The advantages of the pills over the patch seem obvious.

I told my doctor that I recommend the tabets for his patients and I will never be on a boat again without my Scopace.

Brett Lesser

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate finding a motion sickness pill that really works.  I’m an avid fisherman that loves to go deep sea fishing but I’ve always been concerned about getting sea sick.  Being one of those fishermen that know his limits, I DO NOT go out without taking something first.  Before I started using Scopace I would take other products that somewhat worked but would only give me that OK feeling.  The side effects of blurred vision and becoming sleepy were something I knew I had to deal with.  But only feeling OK and always having that feeling that I could get sick if I wasn’t careful was something that always bothered me.  Since using Scopace, the just “OK” feeling has been replaced with one of feeling GREAT.  This stuff really works.  Thanks for making available a product that allows me to forget the past and enjoy my passion.

Sincerely,

Bob Nordstrom

I have been using Scopace for several years, and it is wonderful.  I can now go below deck without getting sick, no more watching the horizon all the time.  Its also much easier to use than the patch, fifteen minutes is all it takes!  Plus I can set the dosage to my needs.  Its a great product.  I can't recommend it enough, its made my time on the water so much better!

Robert Henson

Thank you for Scopace.  I am a person who could never enjoy a cruise due to seasickness that kept me in my stateroom.  I just returned from a week cruise to the Western Caribbean and had a wonderful time.  Not sick for a moment.  The seas were quite turbulent, but nevertheless, I did well.  Guess I'll try a trip to Europe next.

Dorothy DeRuve

Scopace is the best seasick meds I’ve ever encountered! – not just better than the Patch but the next evolution beyond the Patch.

I have just recently returned from a 900 mile passage on a 40 foot sailboat. For half the trip we were out in front of a Gail enjoying 40 knot winds & 15 foot seas. With Scopace I never felt better.

I have always been prone to seasickness and have learned to suffer and depend on the Patch. With the Patch I experienced significant side effects including blurred vision to the point of being unable to read the chart plotter. The Patch makes me feel “a little off & generally uncomfortable”. I found Scopace side effects minimal & tolerable. I also discovered that all I needed was a half of pill every 100 miles.

Thank you for Scopace, no one ever needs to be sea sick again!

Whip Jenks

Scopace tablets are great!  I get seasick very easily and have a real love/hate relationship with the sea because of it.  I've used the patch before, but the side effects are terrible for me.  I recently went on a 2-week cruise and took the tablets along.  I'm a small female, and I found that I could take 1/2 or 1/4 of a tablet, and not be seasick, and not have side effects!  I can't wait for my next cruise.

I want to sincerely thank you for changing an important part of my life.

I am a SCUBA diver, extremely prone to motion sickness, like nobody else I have known about. I had tried anything and everything without a bit of success. My diving trips were easily turned miserable even in mild seas.

I heard about SCOPACE in an e-group I became member of precisely to receive some advice from professional divers about my seasickness. I took my prescription to the drugstore with very low expectations since nothing had worked to me before. So, I gave SCOPACE a skeptical try and... It is simply amazing... Almost unbelievable... With mild side effects in my case (much less than with meclizine), SCOPACE has made my diving journeys happy, relaxed and enjoyable, no matter how rough the sea is (to call it Pacific Ocean is definitely a euphemism around here). Again, thanks to your team of researchers very, very much.

Pedro M. Perez

My wife got seasick every time we got out of the harbor - I mean really sick. After trying everything available (OTC and prescription), we finally found Scopace. For two years now, my wife has not been seasick even in some pretty rough water. It has been a real life saver. Try it please. You will have to ask your doctor for a prescription, but believe me, its worth it.

Every night the ship rocked and vibrated horribly. My wife, who is never seasick, me and the rest of our group all had to take Scopace to get through the cruise. We noticed that other passengers were staying in their cabins throughout dinner because of motion sickness.

Thank you for making scopolamine available to the public as an oral medication.

I love boats, sail and cruise, but am prone to seasickness... The patch was a poor replacement (fell off once in the middle of a trip and didn't realize it. ARGH) Am glad I can get it orally. It acts quickly, I can control the dosage, and it work for the few hours I need it. And I don't have any side effects. You fill a needed niche with your product and I hope you always have it available.

I wanted to add my experience using Scopace. My wife and I went to Hawaii in late April, and we were planning several outings on boats. I have always been very sensitive to motion sickness, and was looking for some help. I had used a Scopolamine patch on a previous trip, and suffered from several side effects. A friend, who sails often, told me about the Scopace tablets and I asked my doctor to prescribe. All I can say is that they were great. We went out twice, and the first time I used 2 pills, and did feel some mouth dryness and a slight fuzziness, but no motion sickness. On our second sea outing, I only took one pill, and this time I had virtually no side effects and experienced no motion sickness even though the sea was high and several others on the boat were feeling pretty sick.

Thanks for a great product - it helped to make our trip great!

While I LOVE to cruise, I always have to face the fears of seasickness. I don't do too badly in the Caribbean ... the motion is mild and, after a day or two I get used to it ... but I ALWAYS have trouble when out in the Atlantic and Pacific; it's the swells that really get to me. I have used the transdermal scopolamine patch and have never had much, if anything, in the way of side-effects. I am a large man, however, and the standard dosage only works for about 2 days, rather than for three. Hence, in conversation with my doctor, I tried Scopace, which is an oral version of the same drug. It comes in smaller dosages, and one has to dose oneself every day, however one can make sure that one doesn't get too much at any one time. I used Scopace in the Pacific and was VERY pleased.

The free stuff that the Front Desk will give you doesn't do much for me; that's in-part due to the fact that I'm (1) large, and (2) easily made seasick. Scopolamine, however, works wonders for me; while others are sick in heavy seas I can walk around, read, play in the Casino, eat, and enjoy myself.

It's been almost 1 year since I researched the web for motion sickness help, and found your website.  I have now flown several times from Chicago to California, Colorado, Tennessee, Florida and the Scopace tabs have not failed me once!!! Thank you so very, very much!

First off I would like to thank the doctor at Hope Pharmaceuticals for helping me obtain Scopace thru my pharmacist and also for the drug itself. Motionsickness was making travel very difficult for me.Before Scopace, I would not even consider a cruise (flying was bad enough). I have tried so many remedies that they are too numerous to list. I flew for the first time without that awful feeling and the side effects were so minimal that I hardly noticed. I just may trythat cruise. Thanks for the HOPE......

Scopace is the best new product to happen to fishing since spectra. We take alot of people fishing and we tell all new fishermen to get a prescription for Scopace. So far it is 100%. ...

Nothing else works consistently on all people. There are other products but I think they are iffy at best and some are gimmicky and just marketed well. Look at what people keep saying. Use Scopace.

Subj: HOPE

Best thing to happen to fishing besides this club in 20 years is Scopace.

If you look at the pill it has the word "HOPE" written on it. I guess its because its made by Hope Pharmaceuticals, but I think it means there is hope for people that have never been able to go out and fish the Ocean.

Give it a try before you accept that you will just be miserable out there.

Dan

Subj: Salmon for Dinner!

I saw where folks in the club were recommending Scopace for seasickness. I have a friend who I took out salmon fishing this week who swore he would never go out on the ocean again as he always got sick and has tried everything. Well Scopace worked for him all day. He even ate lunch and asked...why am I feeling so good.

Nate

Subj: Try Scopace

You stated you didn't have the stomach for offshore swells, well, neither do I, especially early in the season. But, for me there is a silver bullet in Scopace. One pill, I don't get drowsy, and can now stare downwards at the bait bucket, tying knots, etc., while laughing at the swells. Really good stuff. It's prescription but worth a call to your doc.

I'm an avid offshore sport fisherman who's very prone to sea sickness. I fish rough area such as Hatteras, Venezuela and 90 miles out inthe Northeast canyons. I have tried every sea sick remedy; the $150 electric bracelet, Dramamine, Bonine, Transderm Scop and some kind of oil behind the ear. Nothing works for me except Scopace. One pill takes care of most situations, but ten foot seas demand two. I couldn't get along without it. My fishing trips are expensive and when seas are sporty, Scopace saves my day.

Sincerely,
David Leavitt

From: BoatGuy

A lot of the over the counter stuff does NOT work for me. Dramamine was useless. Anyway, I always liked scopolamine patch, but think the pill form SCOPACE is much better (and much cheaper).

We just returned from Las Vegas, and I just had to let you know right away that Scopace is Ralph's miracle! He was fine! He suffered NO ill effects from the planes or helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon! We enjoyed such a fabulous trip thanks to Scopace!

Subj: transderm scopolamine question...

I just bought the transderm scopolamine patch and was wondering your thoughts on it.. like what time to put it on.. what to eat and drink etc..all advice is helpful.

Austin

Subj: Something better!

Want something even better? SCOPACE! It is an ORAL (pill) version of the patch. But there are differences:

1. Works faster (one hour after you take it)
2. Works better
3. Diminished side effects. I had dry mouth from the patch, but not from the pill. I have heard of the vision side effect, but I never experienced it - I can't comment.
4. Costs MUCH less.
5. Lasts for eight hours. Why put medicine in your body for longer than you need it!

BoatGuy

PS: No, I do not sell it. Take it from someone who has done more than his fair share of "chumming".

Re: Something better!

Hey BoatGuy --- you're the third person to tell me about that Scopace pill. I guess I'm sold.

Subj: Scopolamine tablets?

I read a post a year ago or so that scopolamine is now available in a tablet, rather than a patch, that lasts only 8 hours or so. Has anyone heard of it? Does it have a different name?

Thanks,
Mitch

Subj: Re: Scopolamine tablets?

Its called Scopace. The same scopolamine as in the patch, but it is only an 8 hour dosage. Much less expensive than the patch. Go to www.motionsickness.net. You'll probably have to have your pharmacist order it, as most don't carry it.

I love it. You only need to take it an hour before boarding, so it doesn't screw with your sleep the night before. You can take it so that it is out of your system shortly after getting off the boat.

Bill

Subj: Re: Scopolamine tablets?

I have used it for three years now and swear by it! I weigh 240 lbs and take a tablet and a half every 7-8 hours. The tablets are 0.4 mg so I cut some in half with a blade. I get mine with a prescription from Rite Aid and are made by Hope Pharmaceuticals.

Subj: Sea Sickness Remedy

You are correct!! SCOPACE works as good as the patch (same active ingredient) and it is very economical. Also, you have less side effects because you have more control over the dosage ingested. With the patch, you get drugs whether you need it or not. With SCOPACE (which is an easy to swallow small pill) you take it if you need it. I have used it 5 times this year and it works great, no seasickness at all, and much less side effects. I can recommend it highly. Walgreens Pharmacy had to special order it, the pharmacist had not even heard of it.

The pills are great for short 1/2-3/4 day trips like I'm stuck with...Also a heck of a lot cheaper then wasting a patch for short trips, take one pill 1/2-1 hour before you leave then another if needed later.

Subj: Re: Scopace
From: Scalawag

Scopace is out of your system after 8 hours. This is one of the reasons I like it. I don't notice the side effects while I'm fishing, and its usually out of my system by the time I tie up to the dock. After a couple of beers cleaning up the boat, there is no slapping myself repeatedly and sticking my head out the truck window to stay awake on the drive home, no falling asleep on the sofa at 7:30 p.m., no crawling to the bed, and best of all, no drool stains on the carpet!

Subj: Re: Scopace
From: Marc-G

As a veteran of both the pills (Scopace) and the patch, I can testify that the side effects of the pill are less intense and shorter lived than the patch. The pill is great for day trips.

Subj: Scopace Results
From: jigtosser

As I have posted before, I get seasick very easily and very bad. The patch works well but is way too strong. I got a prescription for Scopace recently and tried it out on this trip with EXCELLENT results.

I timed the (4) doses as follows:

One tab at 5:00 pm on the night of departure,
one at 12:00 am before crawling in my bunk,
one at 7:00 am at breakfast,
and one at 1:00 pm as we headed back in.

It took about 2 1/2 hours before the first dose was real noticeable -- very dry mouth and slightly blurred vision -- but symptoms were much less severe than those of the patch. Also with the patch, I felt cruddy for a day after removing it whereas just 2 hours after getting off the boat tonight I felt almost normal (some of you probably think I'm a bit abnormal all the time, so it may not be the meds).

So in conclusion, I like Scopace and will definitely use it in the future.

My wife and I have been on a number of "fly-in" fishing trips to northern Quebec. We both love the therapeutic solitude of a full week on an uninhabited Canadian lake. Sadly, the float plane ride, of up to 3 hours in length, has always devastated my poor wife with motion sickness that over the counter remedies could not touch. We tried patches, bracelets, ginger, pills, etc., but nothing seemed to give her any relief.

Determined not to put her through any more torture I embarked on an Internet search for answers. That is where I discovered Scopace. Convinced that this might be the answer I approached three doctors and two pharmacists for assistance. None of them had ever heard of Scopace. I finally printed out all of the information from your website and took it to our family doctor who finally gave us the prescription.

I am pleased to report that we just returned from our latest adventure into the Canadian wilderness and your Scopace pills did the trick! Despite a 2-1/2 hour plane ride complete with the usual turbulence, my wife suffered no motion sickness at all.

What a blessing!!! Equally as important, she noted that there were no after effects nor side effects with Scopace.

Thanks for a great product. Please continue to get the word out to doctors and pharmacists about Scopace. Further, tell other sufferers to refuse to take "no" for an answer when their doctor balks at prescribing a product that they are not familiar with.

Sincerely,
David H. Lillie

Dear Hope Pharmaceuticals,

Having suffered from motion sickness during boating and flying for most of my life, I had my doctor prescribe Scopace to me last summer after coming across your website. I have tried every remedy in the book over the past few years and have only had marginal alleviation of symptoms with very high dosages of Bonine; dosages beyond the recommendations at which point I was a "walking zombie". I've tried wrist bands of all types, ginger, biofeedback,...you name it. And always got motion sickness. Scopace has changed that!

I have an offshore fishing boat and am very, very sensitive to motion sickness even in relatively gentle seas, often getting sick way before any of my passengers and getting so sick that my wife has had to captain the boat back to port. My dreams of becoming a military pilot were dashed because of my susceptibility to airsickness.

I began taking Scopace last year and have not gotten motion sickness a single time while taking it. The best dosage I've found for me (I'm 6'2", 215 lbs.) is 1 tablet taken about two hours before boating or flying. I take 2 tablets if I'm expecting unusually rough seas or turbulence. I experience no side effects from only taking one tablet and only a dry mouth when I take 2 tablets.

Scopace really has changed my life - I can now enjoy boating, fishing, and flying without fear of getting motion sickness.

Regards,

Tom Anderson

p.s. You may use any portion of my testimonial in the promotion of your product, Scopace.

Subj: Scopolamine tabs

My wife gets sick every now and again so we got her a prescription for scopolamine pills. I decided to try one to see what the side effects were. I had only one side effect - couldn't keep the salmon off my rod.

I will say the patch dilated my eyes in a big way. The pill didn't have that effect on me, no drowsy, jumpy, or anything weird.

Ben

Subj: Scopolamine tabs

If it does all that for you (like keeping you from being weird, etc) you should take it every day! I am very impressed with Scopace and would recommend it to anyone. Dry mouth is the only side effect I have gotten and we all know how to fix that!

Mike

Subj: Motion sickness

I will second the recommendation for oral scopolamine, which goes by the brand name SCOPACE. It is faster acting and also shorter acting [than the patch]. It will wear off in 8 hours, making it perfect for local trips. I don't get the "hangover" that the patches sometimes give me. Just be sure to bring a second pill for those long tuna trips.

Marc

Subj: Motion sickness

If you want to use Scopace, print the into off their website for your Dr. It is a new product and some Drs. have not heard about it. Mike is right on with this. I started using it last year and it helps a lot.

I am a tournament Sport Fisherman who is absolutely determined to conquer sea sickness. Scopace is absolutely the best product I have ever used.

Thank you for returning my phone call and answering my questions regarding Scopace. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you how thankful I am for the availability of this drug. I live in south Florida, and being married to an avid fisherman we spend many hours deep-sea fishing and taking trips across to the various Bahamian Islands. The only product I have ever used before was Dramamine, which didn't really alleviate the sea-sickness, but merely put you to sleep.

Well, my husband and I just took our first cruise, and knowing that I am prone to sea sickness and wanting to spend my first cruise vacation doing something other than sleeping from the effects of Dramamine, I phone my physician and asked him to prescribe the "patch" for me. He suggested I try Scopace. I took one tablet every 8 hours, and if the seas looked really flat, I took only 1/2 tablet. I never felt groggy, and more importantly, I never felt sea-sick. The only side effect I had is that I had a very dry mouth, and for that I drank water. The last day of our cruise during the night a cold front came through and we woke up to 12 foot seas. Thank goodness for Scopace. On a cruise of 2500 people, 3/4 of them were sea-sick, but not me!! For me not to be sick in 12 foot seas, where people couldn't even walk down a hallway without bumping back and forth into walls was a miracle. Our ship was like a ghost ship, as most people were sick in their cabins. So, I know that this drug really does work and I would highly recommend it to anyone who has ever experienced motion sickness.

Sincerely,
Caaren Weiger

Dear people at Hope, I just had to write to you and tell you that I think that your product, SCOPACE, is fantastic. For years and years I have loved off-shore fishing but the paradox is, I get violently sea sick. I have used the 'patch' but the last 2 times I used it I still got sick. It really sucks when you pay up to $500 per day to have fun and you end up hanging over the side all day. About 6 months ago I did some internet research and found out about something new, Scopace. I found your web sight and asked that you send some information to my doctor. Before my trip to Venezuela I visited him and we talked about giving your product a try. I was pleasantly surprised by the more than reasonable cost, much lower than the 'patch'. I took 2 pills every day that I fished and even in the 6-8 foot seas, that are common in Venezuela, I felt great! The side effects are no worse than the 'patch' and didn't last 3 days. With the help of your product I was able to catch over 10 White Marlin. Tell your 'ad people' to start advertising in MARLIN Magazine and SPORT FISHING. This is a great new product that the word needs to get out. I'm sold! Thanks a lot. You helped make my vacation one of my most outstanding trips ever!

Scopolamine is now available in a very efficient oral forumla that is getting rave reviews from those I've talked to who have used it. Much less expensive too. Ask you Health Provider for an Rx...

Subject: Heres where I got it.

I got Scopace prescribed at the ECIM Emergency Care facility here in Cape Carteret, NC. He [doctor's name omitted] called Wal-Mart pharmacy in Morehead City and they said they could get it within a couple of days...and they did.

It has worked wonders for me. Go see 'em and they'll hook you up. Drop me a line if you need more info.

I have had motion sickness problems since I was a child. This has meant avoiding amusement parks, swings, elevators, and long car rides. I had been able to "deal" with the dizziness until I developed allergies. Because I am prone to dizziness, when I have a bad allergy day I get dizzy. It is real similar to the feeling of riding in a car and trying to read, but it doesn't go away. I have tried the wrist band (electric and non); meclizine and the scopolamine patch and have only experienced side effects or no relief at all. My doctor recently gave me Scopace and I am hooked!! I wish someone would have given me this 20 years ago! There are days that I can't ride in elevators or even watch someone walk past me. At work, I've even had to turn off the fluorescent lights and use a desk lamp with a non-fluorescent bulb. The Scopace kicks in quickly and provides 100% relief for 6-8 hours. Please don't ever stop making it!!!

Sincerely,

Grateful in Colorado

Re: Scopace vs ReliefBand
Remote User: Bill_D

The band didn't work for me, but the Scopace is perfect. I pop one when I get underway, and by the time I drop the lines in it is in my system. I don't notice any side-affects while fishing, and with the 8 hour dosage, its out of my system by the time I get back to the berth. Drink a couple of beers while cleaning up the boat and I don't even end up face down, drooling all over the dock. Far better than anything else I've found.

Re:
Remote User: mike_g

Again, I don't work for the company nor am I a paid spokesperson (I am available and my rates are fair) Scopace is the same drug as the scopolamine patch but is in a better dose and is good for 8 hours as compared to three days for the patch. And since it doesn't get absorbed through the skin you can take it within an hour of going instead of overnight and the dose is better regulated. I took the patch while in the Society Islands and though it worked well I couldn't read small print and the dry mouth was terrible. Otherwise it was fine. And then there's the patch behind your ear that screams "I will puke with out this!" I read about Scopace in one of the many boating magazines I read and checked out the website www.scopace.com. You need a prescription and the doctor may have never heard of it (like mine) but its no big deal. It was a little over $13 for 20 pills. It was tough to fight the dramamine drowsies especially after getting up early for a tuna trip, having a couple of Bloody Marys, and having the mid-morning watch. Scopace gives me no drowsy effect, just a slight dry mouth and no vision issues. And not only can I do something below in heavy seas but I can even eat a sandwich while doing it. I'm sold on it. Chris tried it opening day and he liked the effect too and my mom who can get very seasick fished with us Friday and was happy as a clam.

[Note: Patients should avoid using alcohol while taking Scopace.]

I too want to let you know how pleased I am with Scopace. As the skipper of the vessel I can't afford to be sick, or even feeling dowsy from the OTC products. Usually I was fine when it got rough as long as I was piloting but reading charts or working down below would get things started. Now with Scopace, I can work on a plugged head in 6 foot seas with no problems. The only side effect is the dry mouth and its not that bad - nothing some coffee or OJ can't take care of. Great stuff! I can't say enough.

Mike

I am writing to sing the praises of Scopace. I haven't met anyone who gets as motion sick as I do. I can't ride amusement rides, I can't read or look down in moving vehicles, I get nauseous on airplanes, and I always got extremely sick on offshore fishing trips. I love to go deep-sea fishing, but every time I tried to go, I spent the entire trip - and I do mean the entire trip - hanging off the side of the boat vomiting. I even got sick in the bay under relatively mild conditions. I was always too sick and weak to fish. I tried every type of motion sickness pill, patch, and gimmick such as the relief armbands...nothing worked for me at all.

I was considering giving up off-shore fishing for good, when I came across Scopace while researching remedies for motion sickness on the internet. After reading the testimonials, I hoped this would be the medicine that would do the trick. I called my doctor and had him write me a prescription. After the medicine came in, it was time for the test. If you have ever been seasick, you know how horrible it is - I was very nervous and apprehensive as to whether or not Scopace would work. There was only one way to find out.

As we reached the dock that morning, the captain said the seas were going to be fairly rough, choppy with swells from 8-10 ft. I took two Scopace about 20 minutes before stepping onto the boat. I was extremely apprehensive as we headed out of the inlet. I am happy to report I had zero seasickness on the entire 8 hour trip! You can't imagine how happy I was. I was even able to eat (which had never happened on an offshore trip) and even cut bait - something I never would have been able to do before. It was so rough that day that two of the guys with me got sick - and they were veteran fishermen who had never gotten seasick before.

I can't recommend Scopace enough. It has allowed me to participate in something I love. The only side effect I had was a little drymouth...a small price to pay for being able to sail the high seas in comfort! I want to thank Hope Pharmaceuticals for producing Scopace. I have spread the word to the folks I know who experience seasickness - no one knows about it. You really need to advertise within the medical community...you have a fantastic product!

Sincerely,
Cory Beasley

Just wanted to let you know that I tried you product this weekend and for the first time I was able to fly without nausea or vomiting! I was so surprised that my ENT had not heard of Scopace. He was almost as excited about it as I was. This is a fabulous product.

Karen Burns

Without Scopace, I wouldn't be able to pursue by passion - offshore fishing. I've used the scopolamine patch and it works OK as long as it stays on during the hot summer days on the ocean. I've been taking Scopace for the past year and it has been a life saver. All OTC products make me EXTREMELY drowsy.

Thanks again for a great product!

My experience with this medicine over the years has been extremely positive. My situation is rather unusual since I get motion sickness symptoms after playing rigorous basketball. It seems that the quick back and forth movements upset my delicate equilibrium. In the past I have used over the counter medications, however they would cause extreme drowsiness often lasting until the next day. Since switching to the Scopace tablets I get just mild drowsiness with no negative effects while playing basketball.

Steve

I must tell you that I have battled motion sickness my entire life (I'm 22). I always used to get sick on both boats and airplanes...Recently I found Scopace, and decided to try it. I was thrilled and nothing short of amazed! This is my miracle drug! It really works! I used to be so afraid of getting sick on an airplane that I wouldn't eat 8 hrs before flights, leaving my feeling extremely hungry, weak, and even nauseous, before even getting onto the plane...With Scopace I was able to eat both before and DURING the flight! I could feel the movements of the plane but there was absolutely NO nausea at all!!! I flew from Boston to Honolulu, 2 flights. The trip was a total of 14 hours, and 1 Scopace pill (0.4mg) held up the entire trip. I can not thank you enough for opening up my life to the world! I now feel like I can travel anywhere, no matter how long the flight. This pill works wonders and I am so thankful for it!!! Keep up the good work! And thanks again!

Subj: Oral Scopolamine!!!
Posted by: brianc

I too am a dedicated chummer. Just looking at a glass of water is enough to set me off.

I tried everything with little success until I tried the patch. The patch is a 72 hour dose that costs about $5 per. This was overkill for a day boat, but still better than the alternative. Then I found Scopace - Oral Scopolamine. This is an 8-hour dose taken one hour prior to boating. I got 30 tablets for abour $15. It not only works as well as the patch for me, it seems to cause less of the typical scopolamine symptoms of cotton mouth, etc. Now I look forward to rough rides!

I just wanted to let you know that yesterday at a family member's engagement party I was chatting about how Scopace is such a help that two other people will be contacting their doctor's to discover the benefits for themselves. It truly is an amazing help when suffering from motion sickness - thank you!

I'll keep spreading the word.

Very truly yours,

Q: Everytime I step on any kind of floating platform, whether it be a boat or raft, I become nauseous and hurl. I've tried every kind of motionsickness medication known, but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Kenny G.

A: Yeah, try this. Go get a prescription from your MD for Scopace. It comes in 0.4 mg pill form from Hope Pharmaceuticals (accept no substitutes - like the patch)... I swear, you can munch down a super combo burrito with sour cream and hot sauce from the raunchiest roach coach, chase it with warm Budweiser, and cross the Santa Barbara Channel on the roughest day and never once chum for fish.

I would like to take a minute to thank you for creating Scopace. I have a passion for sailing, but much like Lord Nelson, I have been known to lose my sea-legs from time to time.

I have a great deal of experience with the Scopalomine patches, and learned over the years that (at least for me) they had to be applied at least 6 hours prior to do any good. In hot weather, I couldn't keep them attached, and they tended to come off in my sleep at night. A lot of bother, especially since I rarely needed them after the first 24 hour period.

Then I discovered Scopace. By the time I throw my sea-bag together and get on board, Scopace is on the job. The side affects are lighter than the patch, and I can discontinue use usually after one dose, or extend the treatment with a half-pill towards the end of the day.

I forgot to take the pill one time in very rough weather, and realized my mistake when I started getting decidedly queasy. I took a Scopace tablet and before I knew it, I was fine. I could never do that with the patch, and often turned down sailing opportunities because I didn't have enough lead time for the patch to reach sufficient dosage.

Thanks again,

David

I have been going fishing off of Montauk for about 15 years and usually lose my uneaten sandwiches to my friends as I get a very bad case of seasickness. A few times if I took a heavy dose of Bonine or Dramamine I managed to control the symptoms, but they would make me so sleepy I could not keep my head up to fish.

Unfortunately we did not go 25-30 miles out in the ocean last week as the weather was too rough for a 40 foot vessel. I could not put Scopace to the "real test." However, even being offshore where we did eventually fish the water was somewhat antagonistic. After 1 Scopace pill earlier about 2 am that morning I was fine. I felt no drowsiness or nausea. (Of course it helps when there are plenty of fish as one does not think about the boat rocking.) I do feel that the medication worked well and am looking forward to giving it the ultimate test soon.

Dear Hope Pharmaceuticals:

I am writing to thank Dr. Sherman and the people at your company for their help in procuring Scopace. I have been a lifelong motion sickness sufferer. It is so bad that sometimes simply making one complete turn makes me dizzy. I have tried Bonine, Dramamine and many other products, but none have worked as well as Scopace. I used it while on a cruise and liked the ability to take it at night when the ship was traveling, but not take in during the days we were in port. It gave me much more flexibility than the patch, and allowed me to dose it for my petite size. I had very few of the side effects described in your literature. I appreciate your efforts at informing my doctor about Scopace and helping find a local distributor.

Sincerely,

Laura Greenstein

Thank you for this product [Scopace]. I just got back from a cruise and took your product. It worked great and without the side effects I had with the patch I had previously used.

I would like to take this time to thank you for creating Scopace 0.4mg pills. I have recently bought a boat to find out my wife gets EXTREMELY sea sick. As long as we are moving in the boat she would be fine. As soon as we stop to fish, within 20 minutes we would be on our way home. We had tried everything there was for sale, every over the counter drug there was, wrist bands pressing on pressure points and even the patch.

Just by luck I was surfing the web and decided to search for motion sickness. Yahoo listed your site. I read about Scopace and the next day called the doctor to get some. I am very pleased to say that since my wife has taken Scopace, we are now able to stay out all day on the boat. Stopping does not bother her anymore and she is even able to eat while we fish. She does not have any side effects.

You have no idea how much I appreciate your medication. If it hadn't been for Scopace I might have had to sell my new boat.

If you would like to use this letter for advertisement feel free.

Thank you so very much,
Ed Tess
